Chassis and suspension
It is not afraid of severe stress. Because it features a boxed steel rail-and-beam chassis that is the result of Iveco's many years of experience building commercial vehicles. The chassis was designed with the bodywork, and it resists any torsion and adapts to any terrain - essential characteristics for off-road driving.
The Massif's parabolic suspension was designed specifically to get past all types of obstacle in off-road applications, and it offers exclusive advantages: outstanding flexibility and easy maintenance, low maintenance costs, superb safety.
Driveline
Carrying your load to its destination in all circumstances. Moving efficiently on every surface and in all climate conditions. That is what we expect from a professional vehicle. Particularly when it is used for rescue. The Massif does not fear these challenges, because it is the ideal vehicle for transport on mixed routes, when normal roads, motorways and off-road stretches alternate. This versatility is the result of part-time all-wheel drive and a 6-speed manual gearbox plus creeper speeds combined with the boxed rail-and-beam chassis - plus leaf spring suspension with a live rear axle - which stands up to extreme wear and tear.
Engine
No other is more powerful. The Massif has the highest power output, the highest torque delivery, the best acceleration and the best top speed among off-road vehicles in the commercial transport category. This is an important record, achieved thanks to the characteristics of its 3-litre, 146 Hp to 176 Hp engines. This excellent on- and off-road performance is due to peak torque of 350 or 400 Nm (depending on the version), which is available and constant from low engine speeds. The Massif engines are extraordinarily elastic and efficient, but also eco-friendly; they respect Euro 4 limits and incorporate EGR exhaust gas recirculation technology. Both versions have 4 valves per cylinder for low fuel consumption and minimal running costs, while the twin overhead camshaft (DOHC) guarantees less mechanical stress. The Wastegate valve for the 146 Hp engine, and the VGT turbine on the 176 Hp engine, help to increase the power and torque deliveries at low speeds.
Characteristics: 2988 cc Common rail engine, with four cylinders in line, 16 valves and a twin overhead camshaft.
Maximum power output: 129.4 kW (176 Hp) at 3500 rpm; 107 kW (146 Hp) at 3500 rpm.
Peak torque: 400 Nm from 1250 to 3000 rpm for the 176 Hp version; 350 Nm from 1400 to 2600 rpm for the 146 Hp version.
Gearbox and transmission
The gearbox and transmission on the Massif are derived directly from those on the Daily range, and therefore feature characteristics designed for larger vehicles in the up to 6.5 tonne bracket.
The big novelty of the Massif compared to the best competition is its part-time four-wheel drive. It is a guarantee of versatility, and the best solution for mixed use. It allows the driver to select 2 or 4-wheel drive easily, when he needs it, even with the vehicle on the move. With 4x2 use, this system can reduce fuel consumption by as much as 10% compared to 4x4.
